I lived through Vatican II. Shortly thereafter, Pope John XXIII's prayer for "A new breath of the Holy Spirit" was answered in the Catholic Charismatic Movement, where people from all over the world started to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit! This did NOT sit well with most members of the Hierarchy at that time, who couldn't even begin to think it was conceivable that the Holy Spirit would stoop so low as to listen to everyday, normal Catholics in the pew! How could the Holy Spirit do this without the Members of the Hierarchy!!!!! In the Early Days of the Pentecostal or Charismatic Movement in the RCC, many of the members were openly persecuted by our bishops and priests, who did not want the Clerical Culture of the Catholic Church broken down and opened to all Catholics, who realized the words of St. Peter: "He are kings and priests." Today's writers make it sound like all of the bishops of Pope John XXIII's day were behind Vatican II. I can categorically state from experience, it scared the HELL out of most of them, and still does!
